The Algonquin Township Road District is currently responsible for the maintenance of over 55 certified miles of roadways. This includes over 225 streets and 50 cul-de-sacs.

A crew of nine (9) employees handles all maintenance which includes, but is not limited to, sweeping of streets, drainage (within right of ways), signage, patching, berm repairs (grading, mowing, guard rails), Township facilities, (5 buildings), inspections of all contracted services (paving and reconstruction projects) and winter snow and ice control.

Algonquin Township Road District provides many services to the community. Our main function is to maintain Township roads that are not located within any village boundaries. We are responsible for resurfacing, patching and snow plowing on the more than 55 miles of township roads. Where necessary, we provide lighting at major intersections. Our crews are also kept busy repairing and replacing the more than 800 road signs around the township.

Saving taxpayers money is important to us. At the highway department we are always looking for ways to save taxpayers money and improve service to the public. Through intergovernmental cooperation we are able to reduce costs, and eliminate duplication of services. The non-dedicated roads program helps many subdivisions in the township to bring their roads up to township standards. Additionally, to help protect township roads we require permits for the installation of new driveways, culverts, utilities and overweight vehicles that wish to use our roads.

The highway department is dedicated to preserving the environment.  We collect tons of tree branches from our curbside pickup program and the many trees we trim along township roads. After chipping, the wood is made available to the public at no charge. Look for the "Free Wood Chips" sign and a mountain of chips. We also provide extensive recycling services
